Best and Worst Dressed at Coachella 2012

Filled under:

Year after year, celebrities crowd the VIP section at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, slipping into their quirkiest warm-weather outfits for this music-lover’s paradise.

Katy Perry decided to let it all hang out in a completely sheer floral frock worn over old-school granny panties and a matching bra. A leather jacket and decidedly unsexy motorcycle boots failed to make this look any more modest.
The singer was a one-woman ’90s revival with her bright purple hair and floral mini dress worn over ripped stockings. Somewhere, Courtney Love is seething over the appropriation of her seminal look.
Rihanna treated the crowd to a surprise performance during Calvin Harris’ set, shimmying about in a pair of dangerous denim shorts (so tight we fear for her circulation), a black “PEACE” sports bra and a Chanel windbreaker.
Lindsay Lohan looked like she was having trouble finding her footing in her insane lace-up platform booties, an odd choice for anyone hoping to remain vertical throughout the day. But the shoes did match Lohan’s little lace dress quite nicely.
The Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev looked like your typical .Thanks to his jaunty fedora and her comfy-looking maxi dress and excess of accessories, including oversized leaf-and-feather earrings.
Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger have been together so long, it’s not surprising they’ve started dressing alike. Josh’s striped tee matched Diane’s pretty blue dress almost too well.
Bold print enthusiast Emma Roberts braved the heat in a pair of floral short shorts (how very ’90s) and a brown crocheted cut-out top. Roberts also bulked up on accessories, including an adorable pair of baby blue Ray-Ban sunglasses.
The actress looked cool and comfortable in a pair of lightweight print drawstring pants and a belly-baring lace top. Take note, starlets: This is one way to dress for the weather without risking overexposure.
The former High School Musical star looked like she was in costume for a Dazed and Confused remake for most of the weekend, thanks to her headdresses and myriad ’70s accessories.
The Black Eyed Peas singer slipped a sequined vest with some billowy white train over what appeared to be a shredded black romper, while her husband Josh Duhamel looked considerably less ridiculous more low-key in a shirt and jeans.
Jared Leto has embraced the ’90s. Unfortunately, this does not mean he’s started channeling his My So-Called Life character Jordan Catalano (we’d love to see him sporting ’90s slacker hair again), but that he’s pairing his beard with denim jackets buttoned all the way up .
Socialite-turned-professional club kid Paris Hilton was not interested in flying under the radar, as evidenced by her neon coral minidress and matching hair extensions. Hilton kept safe from the sun under a floppy black hat and cheesy white sunglasses.
Lauren Conrad pulled a pair of Hunter rain boots on over her floral print jeans to avoid any rain-related wardrobe incidents. The former reality star was considerably more put-together than most of her fellow celebs in a filmy white blouse and a luxe knit sweater.
Emma Watson kept warm in a vintage-looking fuzzy jacket thrown over an embroidered blouse and black jeans. The beautiful Brit is sporting lengthy hair extensions for the upcoming film Bling Ring.
